What is IPSC?

IPSC shooting, or International Practical Shooting Confederation shooting, is a dynamic and fast-paced shooting sport that emphasizes accuracy, power, and speed. Competitors use handguns, rifles, or shotguns to shoot at multiple targets arranged in a variety of stages or courses of fire.

Stages: Each competition consists of several stages, which are designed to test different skills and present unique challenges. Stages may include moving targets, obstacles, and varying distances.

Scoring: Competitors are scored based on their accuracy and the time it takes to complete each stage. The goal is to hit the targets as accurately and quickly as possible. Scoring typically involves a combination of points for target hits and penalties for misses or procedural errors.

Divisions: IPSC competitions have multiple divisions to accommodate different types of firearms and equipment, such as Production, Production Optics, Standard and Open divisions available in Malaysia. Each division has specific rules regarding the firearms and modifications allowed.

Safety: Safety is a paramount concern in IPSC shooting. Competitors must follow strict safety protocols, including safe firearm handling, adherence to range commands, and use of appropriate protective gear.

Global Sport: IPSC is a worldwide sport with a large international community. Competitions are held at local, regional, national, and international levels, including the prestigious World Shoot, which is held every three years.

What is practical shooting?

Practical shooting is a sport that combines elements of speed, accuracy, and power, where competitors engage in courses of fire that involve shooting at multiple targets arranged in various configurations. It is designed to simulate real-world scenarios and challenges shooters to demonstrate their skills in a dynamic and realistic environment.

Key Features of Practical Shooting:
Courses of Fire: Each stage or course of fire in practical shooting is uniquely designed, often involving a combination of stationary and moving targets, obstacles, and varying distances. Shooters must navigate through these stages while engaging targets in a specified order.

Scoring: Practical shooting uses a scoring system that rewards both accuracy and speed. Points are awarded based on the number and quality of hits on the targets, with penalties for misses and procedural errors. The competitor with the highest points in the shortest time wins.

Variety of Targets: Targets in practical shooting can include paper targets, steel plates, reactive targets, and moving targets. Each type of target may have specific scoring zones, requiring shooters to aim for higher-value areas to maximize their score.

How can I join IPSC Malaysia?

Research and Understand IPSC:
Familiarize yourself with the basics of IPSC shooting, including the rules, safety regulations, and competition formats. The IPSC website is good resources for this.

As a member of Mas Shooting Club:
Identify and join Mas Shooting Club affiliated with IPSC Malaysia. These clubs often provide training, resources, and support for new shooters.

Complete Safety Courses:
Enroll in and complete a Basic Firearms Safety Course. Mas Shooting Club require new members to undergo safety training to ensure they understand proper firearm handling and range safety protocols.

Attend an Introduction to IPSC Course:
Mas Shooting Club offer introductory courses specifically for IPSC shooting. These courses cover the basics of the sport, including the rules, scoring, and practical skills needed for competition.

Get Licensed:
Obtain the necessary firearm licenses and permits as required by Malaysian law. This often involves background checks, safety training, and meeting specific legal criteria.

Purchase Equipment:
Acquire the appropriate equipment, including holster, magazines, eye and ear protection, and other necessary gear. Our club members can provide guidance on the best equipment for beginners.

Practice Regularly:
Participate in regular practice sessions and club matches to improve your skills. Practical shooting requires a combination of accuracy, speed, and safe gun handling, all of which are developed through consistent practice.

Compete in Matches:
Once you feel confident in your skills, start competing in local matches. This is a great way to gain experience and become part of the IPSC community.

How can I join Mas Shooting Club?

– Signup, join as a member & maintain active membership
– Submit all required forms & PDRM vetting documents
– Prepare your own IPSC shooting gear such as ear & eye protection (ear muffs, safety glasses), IPSC approved gun holster, proper sports attire

Gun / Firearms Safety Rules

Never fool around or play with guns. Guns are dangerous if they are not handled or used properly! Accidents can happen and can easily injure or kill you, and those around you. There are no second chances with a gun and the rules for safe gun handling must always be followed to avoid accidents.

GOLDEN RULES FOR SAFE GUN HANDLING

Always treat the gun as loaded.
Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.
Always keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.
Always keep the gun unloaded until you are ready to use it.
Never point the gun at anything you don’t intend to destroy.
Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.
Learn the mechanical and handling characteristics of the gun you are using.
Always use proper Ammunition.
Be sure the barrel is clear of obstructions before loading and shooting.
If your gun fails to fire when the trigger is pulled, hold your shooting position for several seconds; then with the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, carefully unload the gun.
Don’t rely on the gun’s safety to keep it from firing.
Be aware of your surroundings when handling guns so you don’t trip or lose your balance and accidentally point and/or fire the gun at anyone or anything.

RANGE SAFETY

Always follow the above golden rules for safe gun handling.
Know and follow all the rules of the Shooting Range.
Listen and do what the Range Master/Officer tells you to do.
Uncase and case your gun at the designated safety area, and holster your guns empty (without any magazines).
DO NOT bring any live ammunitions (bullets) to the designated safety area.
When shooting, always keep the barrel pointed down range.
Always wear eye and ear protection when shooting.
Always wear proper shoes, no slippers/sandals allowed.
Never shoot at anything except paper targets/IPSC targets (shooting at water, hard surfaces, walls, bottles, tin cans are NOT ALLOWED).
